So you want to know how long it takes to make money online? That’s a broad question. It entails a lot of details. The better question would be “how committed do I have to be to make money online?”

Because that’s what it really boils down to. Everybody is at different levels of knowledge, understanding, and desires. In online marketing its no different, and everybody’s at different levels in their success. Some will make money online quicker than others.

Then there are those that will try for a few weeks or a couple months and, when they don’t see any success or even a penny, what happens? They give up and call it a scam. That’s unfortunate.

Truth is, whatever your plan to accomplish your monetary goals are, a successful person will take the attitude of “what do I need to do, or how do I make this work?” And never give up until he or they succeed.

No matter what platform or money making endeavor you choose, you have to stay committed to see it through. Now let’s get to the hard core truth of this thing…

The 3 Types Of Commitment  

The first type of committed person is what I call the “Tire kicker” type, that wants to make money online because they see other people doing it and it gets them excited and they think they would like to try. So they find a platform or method to make money with, and they become an affiliate marketer online.

Excited they start to market their product, without having done any research to learn how to market it, other than a few blurbs on the affiliate page, and they paste their links all over the internet in hopes to make those big bucks they so desire.

Next thing you know 2 weeks have gone by and they’ve been hitting it hard marketing their product, and still have nothing to show for it in financial returns. So their enthusiasm begins to get smaller. Their not as excited as in the beginning.

By now another 2 weeks goes by and they’re still working at it, and still have no financial return on their time or money investment. Depending on if they jumped headlong into paid advertising or free advertising of their product. Either way, still nothing yet.

Assuming they are using the free method to drive targeted traffic to their offer, by now the enthusiasm is all but dried up. Excitement gone.

Now its just a matter of time before they say to themselves in their heart and mind, ah, it no use and its not working anyway, this whole make money online thing is nothing but a scam anyway. So their done.

You don’t want to be this person…

The second type of commitment is what I call the “The Hard Core Looker” type. This person has the passion for a certain product or niche market to market in. He finds a certain product he’s interested in let’s say on Clickbank for example.

He’s done some research before and has some great ideas how to market his product. So he sets out to drive traffic to his offer and after about 2 months in, he doesn’t see any returns financially either. But he hasn’t lost his passion.

In the mean time he’s seeing many other ways to make money online and other people having success with it, and so far hes about 4 months in now, and being tempted by all the other ways he’s seen to make money supposedly quicker than the success hes having.

So now after the 4 months he decides to join another type of money making way hes been watching because he thinks he can make quicker money, and now his current marketing endeavors are slacking off on the original offer or way he had before.

So guys, whats happened here to this type person is, he’s just fallen victim to what we as marketers know as “Shiny Object Syndrome”.

This type of person will soon be bouncing around in many different endeavors, and end up dying out and giving up because for being completely overwhelmed. Making nothing for a long time of effort and being overwhelmed are a recipe for disaster.

No you don’t want to be this person either…

The Real Commitment That You Need

The 3rd type of commitment is what I call the “I’ll Do It, Or I’ll Die Trying” type.

This person has the desire, passion, and right type of commitment. He knows this could take him years to reach his financial goals. He’s done some detailed research and studying of other successful marketers for some time.

He’s chosen affiliate marketing as well for his vehicle to get him to his goal. He’s done some research on his passionate product that he’s chosen to be his offer. Yes he’s excited to get started. But careful in marketing.

This person after marketing for some time, say a couple months doesn’t see any return on his investment of time in his efforts. Be it either paid or free traffic to his offer. He’s not disturbed. Remember he’s already committed till he reaches his goals he set for himself.

So he continues on, building up his marketing over the time, without waver. Now a whole year has gone by. He still hasn’t seen any results or returns, hasn’t made a penny. And he’s been crushing the marketing and building on top of building of his marketing day after day, night after night, month in and month out.

Then all of a sudden one day while still crushing the marketing without waver, he gets an email a year and a half in, saying “you just received a commission” on the product he’s been marketing for say the last almost 2 years.

He pauses after reading that and sighs and says to himself ” Wow, its finally starting to happen, its breaking out”. So he takes a little time to celebrate his accomplishment.

Now his passion and excitement are starting to blow up inside himself. So in his new found fire in his heart, he steps up his marketing another notch.

Another 4 months go by again with no more results. But he’s still committed and doesn’t waver. He keeps crushing the marketing day in and day out, night in and night out, month in and month out. Oh yeah, and he’s not tempted by all of the other shiny objects either.

Now headed into 3 to 4 years in without giving up or wavering, all of a sudden, the dam breaks loose. He’s got money coming in from every direction because of his marketing efforts continuously.

Now can you imagine the fire in his heart to keep pressing onward? That’s right he’s not done. All the while along the road he’s learned more and more how to market and scale his business onward and upward.

Now he’s crushing it and reaching all of his goals.

All because he had in his heart and mind that no matter how long it took, he was going to accomplish what he set out to do in the beginning. He was prepared to take the rest of his life to succeed at no matter the cost, if need be.

This is the type person you need to be to succeed in making money online.

Conclusion  

So you see, if you want to make money online, its not how long does it take to make money online, its how committed can you be?

Are you willing to except the truth it might take you the rest of your life to make money in whatever your chosen market or niche is online?

I’ll just tell you straight up – If you can’t make the “I’ll do it, or I’ll die trying” type of commitment, then don’t waste your time even starting. You’ll end up like the first and second type person mentioned earlier.
